the fireworks
Feb. 20th 2003 The Fireworks Jimmy (Yonge Cigar)
May is exciting for me because there is the Victoria’s
day on May and the day’s sale is the largest in the
year so that May’s sale is also the largest in the year.
Even thought powder valued as 4500 dollars is
delivered to my store annually, it is not enough to sale
so that I buy 1000 dollars more by myself. I display
all the powder.
I pile up them at window, floor and shelf. Although it
takes long time to pile up,
I am glad and nice to see after finishing to pile up.
I think store such my store displaying the powder is
not common in Toronto or Ontario. Anyway manager
Kim of the Dominion store says to me that I am the
dominion’s customer in top 5. I can sale them just in
twice that are the Victoria’s day and the Dominion’s
day and I have to sale them during one week for
each day.
I’m not busy on the Dominion’s day so I don’t order
the powder and just sale rest of them.
After displaying them, we cannot be relieved.
I have to watch them carefully because children try
to steal them so many times and I worry about they
may fire them. After display, the powder is not sold
much at the beginning of sale,
however it starts getting be sold much with left 4 days.
The sale becomes the largest on Monday of the week.
At the time I start to be busy from the morning.
Usually one person buys them with 40~50 dollars and
someone buys them with 100~200 dollars. So our sale
is getting grow. My wife and I are all in a flurry and I’m
so exciting. When it is evening after busy time, I slowly
prepare to do fireworks. I steal much powder when my
wife is out. I pretend to take them a little bit at front my
wife. I go to park with the powder, drinks and chips.
There is a small park near by my store. Many people
watch the fireworks at there in every year. I place the
drinks and chips on the table and let anyone eat them
and then there are many children with having the drinks
and chips soon. I go to beach with the powder I brought
and fire them one by one. Then people around me cheer
and applaud. Someone gives me his powder.
I am so exciting even if I cannot distinguish whether I’m
pleased for their pleasure or my pleasure. I give children
some twinkle powder.
Then when I see that all children hold it, I can feel what a
beautiful scene. And then I hope I will do this fireworks
more wonderful and nice than now in next year.
When I say “See you again in next year” after finishing to
do fireworks, they applaud very much. This scene is so
wonderful and I’m so pleasing for this wonderful scene.
When I back I clean the table placed chips and put covers
of the powder into garbage bag. I go to my store again
and arrange to end. Then if time is almost 10 PM,
we check the whole day’s sale. We are surprised that our
day’s sale is over 5500 dollars. It is so surprising thing to
me because I sold so much powder just for one day and
we have sold them as value of over 9000 dollars. I go to
restaurant with wife, son, daughter and son in law. Today,
I smile with thinking the beautiful scene of fireworks.
